How Online Drivers Education Works

Ready to earn your drivers license? For most teens, the process starts around the age of 15 by taking a Online drivers ed program. When a teenager in Stockton turns 15½, they are legally old enough to earn a learning permit. After earning their permit, teens must take a minimum of 6 hours drivers training with a Department of Motor Vehicles licensed driving school in the San Joaquin Valley. In addition, teens must practice 50+ hours with their parents over a 6+ month period. When a teen turns 16 years old and had fulfilled all of their drivers ed and drivers training requirements, they can then schedule an appointment at the Stockton DMV to take their license test. After taking the driver's license test (which is taken in-car), a passing student will go home with a temporary driver's license that same day.

Stockton, CA Drivers Ed Eligibility Requirements

What are the CA Department of Motor Vehicles requirements for teens who want to begin drivers ed? Because the earliest you can earn a provisional permit is at age 15½, most teens will begin their education around 15 years of age. Stockton teens can technically enroll in our Online drivers ed course at any age, but we suggest starting when you are 14 and 15 is best. You want to allow yourself time to really get to know the driving laws and regulations. Also, you will want to read the entire DMV handbook in addition to taking our course. Many San Joaquin County high school students will take our course when they are 15 and then log back in just before they turn 15½ to take free practice tests and to review traffic signs, driving laws, and road rules.

The Benefits of an Internet Based Drivers Education Course

A California DMV study concluded that students taking online or computer based drivers ed actually out perform students taking drivers ed in a traditional classroom setting when comparing exit exam scores. The advantages of an online drivers ed course are obvious:

  • Today's Stockton students naturally gravitate towards technology driven teaching methods, like the Internet
  • Online classes allow students the ability to start and stop as their attention span changes, whereas in traditional driving school classrooms, students tend to zone out or sleep when they become bored
  • Driver education online is more affordable for obvious reasons: low overhead, no books, no money spent on gas, etc.
  • Online drivers ed is more convenient because you can do it right from your Stockton home

CA DMV Approved Drivers Ed

Obtaining the privilege to drive in California requires completing a few short steps. The first step is completing the Online Drivers Education Course. Once this California DMV approved course is complete, your teen will be eligible to take the DMV written test. Proof of completion is a requirement, and will provide the proof your teen needs once the course is complete. When your teen passes the written test, your teen will receive a driving permit. Your teen will need to complete at least 1 lesson with an approved driving school in order to activate the permit. Student's who live in Country Club, Garden Acres, Lathrop, Manteca, Lodi, Tracy, Ripon, Galt, Brentwood, Oakley, Riverbank, Modesto, Oakdale, Antioch, and Ceres are eligible to take the course.
