Thoughts on teaching: Teaching begins with me. I am a big believer in leading by example, and I enjoy teaching my students that it's ok to make mistakes, but progress comes with taking that mistake and learning from it and moving on.

Thoughts on the environment: Earth is our home, and I'm resolved in developing good habits that allow me to do my part in protecting our environment and it all starts at home with my everyday activities.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: Prior to becoming a driving instructor I was a math tutor, and helped many students survive their Pre-Calculus and Calculus courses.

Thoughts on teaching: Teaching is a great way to continue learning. When I try to explain something to students I gain a better understanding of the material, as well as a greater understanding of myself. Interacting with students is rewarding, because each one looks at the world in a totally unique way.

Thoughts on the environment: I like the environment. I want to get to know it. I don't want to kill it. I think littering is shameful.

I work hard to make sure that I answer every question and I also try to learn from my pupils as well.

Thoughts on the environment: I strive extremely hard to be conscious of my carbon footprint and water usage. I believe we should all take care of our planet and try to do something green everyday!

Driving Instructor Anthony
Movie: Marvel Movies, Ocean's Eleven, Superbad, Star Wars, Samurai X

Music: Kendrick Lamar, Daft Punk, DJ Snake, Crown City Rockers

Hobby: On my free time, I enjoy playing video games like Tekken, Street Fighter and Smash Bros. I also enjoy video editing, animation, podcasting and tinkering with computers.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: At a previous job, I trained new hires. I am calm and easy going, but also very thorough. Many of my trainees became trainers themselves.

Thoughts on teaching: I find it fun to teach people the things that I know. I also think it's very important that they learn correctly and are efficient and accurate. I try my best to explain things in many different ways so that nothing is misinterpreted and is understandable from any situation. Knowledge is power.

Thoughts on the environment: Save a little bit of the world now so that there's a little bit for someone else in the future. I can't wait for solar power and electric cars to be more a thing.

Driving Instructor Carlos
Movie: Can't Hardly Wait, American Pie, Silence of the Lambs, Armageddon, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Music: The 1975, Lany, Kacey Musgraves, Blink-182, Modern Baseball

Hobby: In my free time I enjoy going to the gym and taking long hikes in new places with my dog and family.

Other Languages: Spanish

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I am a dedicated and hardworking individual who enjoys helping people of all ages and backgrounds. I have previously mentored students transitioning into high school, helping them obtain the information they need to succeed at a new school. I've held management roles in my previous jobs which helped me gain experience teaching and training people from all walks of life.

Thoughts on teaching: I like to put myself in the shoes of a new student. How did I want a teacher to be when I first started driving? Putting myself in that mindset helps me approach teaching with a lot of patience and understanding, which will help my students feel more comfortable and relaxed when trying to learn something new.

Thoughts on the environment: To keep our world and environment beautiful for future generations to come, everyone can contribute by making small changes to their daily routines, such as recycling more and reusing items for other purposes.

Driving Instructor Daniel
Movie: Star Wars, Superbad, The Matrix, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Napoleon Dynamite

Music: The Weeknd, Lana Del Rey, J. Cole, Lisa Hannigan, Banda MS

Hobby: Food: be it cooking, baking, or eating (by far the best part). Love finding new restaurants and trying new cuisines. I enjoy nature, so going out for a run or a hike up in the mountains is always welcome. Always up for a museum, an art exhibit, or a quirky spot, as well as a good show.

Other Languages: Spanish

Teaching/Mentoring experience: Since high school I volunteered at schools working with young children, always finding it a joy to be able to help young ones learn something new. After college I worked for LAUSD working with special needs students. I have been able to work with all age groups, from pre-K all the way to seniors. I was able to learn the value of patience and open clear communication in the learning process. Most recently I worked with blind and low vision students helping them in different subjects from geometry to US history.

Thoughts on teaching: Simply stated: we learn something new every day; be it something amusing or trivial, or something useful and beneficial. I honestly enjoy both. I enjoy being able to teach someone a random fact, a piece of trivia that may not be entirely of use, but is just fun to know. But what I truly delight in is being able to share a piece of knowledge that a person can use. Something that can improve their life, even in the slightest.

Thoughts on the environment: The Earth is our home, the only one we got. We need to work towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. That takes each one of us putting in our part. And even the smallest contributions of many can eventually make a change.

Driving Instructor Erick
Movie: Thor Ragnarok, Hobbs & Shaw, Avengers Endgame, Coco, Black Panther

Music: The Neighbourhood, Halsey, Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, J Balvin

Hobby: In my free time I enjoy saltwater fishing, going out for a jog, or just driving around town listening to music.

Other Languages: Spanish

Teaching/Mentoring experience: Throughout high school I would volunteer with kids at a summer camp as part of the staff at the local community park. I would help host many events for the kids and plan activities that would be both fun and educational.

Thoughts on teaching: I believe knowledge is power. Teaching is essential and is done throughout everyone's lives. It builds up character, confidence, and makes us grow into who we are today. It's great how you can share your knowledge, experiences, and ideas so you can help others.

Thoughts on the environment: I am an outdoors person, so I always try to do my part in preserving the environment by always picking up after others and myself. Industrialism has taken over our world and environment and created more pollution than we can handle, affecting not only humans but also affecting present and future animal species. I am convinced a small change can make a big difference and everyone can do their part in preventing more pollution and further destruction.

Driving Instructor Harry
Movie: Jurassic Park, King Kong, Harry Potter, Analyze This, Norbit

Music: Metallica, System of a Down, Coheed and Cambria

Hobby: In my free time, I enjoy going deep sea fishing and lake fishing. I also enjoy reading books about historical events and people who have achieved great things.

Other Languages: Armenian

Teaching/Mentoring experience: As a young adult, I taught martial arts to kids ranging from the ages of four to fifteen.

Thoughts on teaching: I believe teaching is much more than just giving simple instructions and directions. Teaching is something you have to feel and express differently with every individual. I take a simple, easy going, and understanding approach to my teaching. I like to analyze the needs of every student and identify their strengths, and my goal is to solidify their strengths, eliminate weaknesses, and give them confidence.

Thoughts on the environment: I believe we need to protect our world and care for all life on this planet, but first we must learn to care for each other and do right to our brothers and sisters in humanity. If we cannot help ourselves, how can we help our planet?

Driving Instructor Jami
Movie: Marvel Trilogies, Lilo & Stitch, The Dark Knight, Crazy Rich Asians, Just Go With It

Music: Lifehouse, Twenty One Pilots, 3 Doors Down, The Smiths, Soundgarden

Hobby: I like singing karaoke, swimming, hiking, reading, and walks on the beach with my spouse.

Other Languages: Currently learning French.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I am a hardworking and patient individual who has had many years of experience working with children and adults of all ages in various ways. I have worked with children of various ages in after-school programs, day cares, and even preschools. Also, before joining Drivers Ed Direct, I worked for the California Highway Patrol as an office secretary. I was able to gain knowledge about the do's/don'ts of the road and the various highway laws to help aid the officers in educating experienced and non-experienced drivers. In addition, I was also able to train new employees and volunteer staff on these laws in addition to regular office duties. With effective teaching skills and with being easy-going/approachable, all were able to benefit from the instructions and guidance provided and apply it accordingly.

Thoughts on teaching: My thought on teaching is that it should not be boring. If the teacher is boring the student, than what is being taught will fall on deaf ears and the application will be lacking. So to make it interesting, I like to provide visual/verbal examples, illustrations, humor, quirky-isms, trivia, etc. as aids in teaching. I want my students to enjoy learning how to drive and to be comfortable, and not give them a headache or added stress.

"Our job is not to prepare students for something. Our job is to prepare our students for anything," A.J. J. So with that said, I do not simply want to teach my students how to drive, but I want to teach them how to be ready for any situation that could happen while driving and to do their best on the road.

Thoughts on the environment: Our planet is truly a beautiful place with so many wonders that we can explore. Sadly, in many ways, it has been mistreated. So we must do our part to maintain and preserve this planet and not be another cause in mistreating it.

Driving Instructor Jay
Movie: Apollo 13, Forrest Gump, Star Wars Saga, Tron, Transformers

Music: The Beatles, Queen, Frank Sinatra, Death Cab for Cutie, Foo Fighters

Hobby: Star gazing with my telescope, Basketball, Hiking, Jogging, Roller Blading

Other Languages: Spanish & currently learning French

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I interned for 6 months at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA working with students of all ages helping them understand the importance of space exploration and manned space flight. I also tutored teens in Astronomy, Science and Biology.

Thoughts on teaching: Even before being an instructor with Drivers Ed Direct I loved teaching and mentoring those around me. Something I would say to my students at NASAs JPL is that anything is possible as long as you believe it is possible. With practice, determination and conviction you can achieve your goals and that is how I approach my students behind the wheel.

Thoughts on the environment: Our home planet Earth is like a beautiful jewel in the universe and unfortunately we don't take care of it as well as we should. I firmly believe that all of us have a responsibility as tenants on this beautiful planet. We need to personally do our part to help the environment and start with the small things that may not seem to matter at first.

Driving Instructor Jen
Movie: The Big Lebowski, Romeo & Juliet, Silver Linings Playbook, Annie Hall, Almost Famous

Music: Adele, Fiona Apple, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, White Stripes

Hobby: In my free time I love to craft, bike ride, hike, and go to the beach.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I have a lot of experience relating to teenagers because I am the mother of a teen. The most experience I have gathered is simply in the day to day dealings of being a mother, guardian, coordinator, coach and teacher. Everyday as a parent you wear each of these hats. I have learned how to best relay information that will be listened to and retained. I know the art of choosing which areas to focus on and how to correct the students without them feeling criticized. I understand that learning to drive can be intimidating and overwhelming for some and I will help them build their confidence and skill equally.

Thoughts on teaching: I am a patient, kind and easy going instructor. I realize the importance of learning the safest and most efficient way to drive. These are learned skills and behaviors that you will carry with you throughout your life. I want students to be knowledgeable, confident and safe drivers for themselves and their passengers.

Thoughts on the environment: I believe if everyone puts forth effort into making our world as healthy and clean as possible, we will all benefit.

Driving Instructor Kevin
Movie: The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, A Walk to Remember, Marvel movies, Coach Carter

Music: John Legend, NIKI, Khalid, Jorja Smith, Justin Timberlake

Hobby: I love to play sports, specifically basketball, and also enjoy rooting for the LAKERS! In my down time, I like hanging out with friends and trying out new restaurants. I also enjoy playing video games and watching all kinds of movies.

Other Languages: Spanish

Teaching/Mentoring experience: Even in high school I always enjoyed helping out others no matter the subject. This love for teaching led me to help tutor my younger brother and my friends' siblings in a variety of subjects, trying to make the learning process enjoyable. Later in life I started coaching basketball using the skills I learned because of my love for the game.

Thoughts on teaching: I believe making the teaching or coaching environment fun, relaxed, and friendly will yield the best results. We're all different and learn at a different pace, so it's necessary to adapt to every student's individual needs. Using patience to make for a safe and fun learning experience is what I strive for.

Thoughts on the environment: I love the outdoors... from walking on sandy beaches to hiking through the mountains. I truly believe everyone has to do their part to keep our planet clean. If just a few more people did so, we would see a huge difference.

Driving Instructor Liz
Movie: Forest Gump, Nacho Libre, Ruby Sparks, The Outsiders, Little Miss Sunshine

Music: Arctic Monkeys, La Santa Cecilia, Lo Blondo, James Bay, Saint Motel

Hobby: In my free time I love going on hikes with friends, visiting botanical gardens and trying out new foods.

Other Languages: Spanish

Teaching/Mentoring experience: At a young age, I would volunteer to teach others. I recently worked as an English tutor. I helped the students reach their goals, which were to learn the rules of the language and practice using it in everyday life. Currently, I am studying to work with children with special needs. Therefore, I occasionally visit schools to observe and learn from the professionals and students on how to mentor these children.

Thoughts on teaching: I love learning new things and you always will learn something new when you teach. In addition, I believe teaching should be made fun and enjoyable for the student. That way both parties have a great experience!

Thoughts on the environment: We only get one planet Earth. We should do everything we can to keep it clean and healthy.

Driving Instructor Mark
Movie: Psycho, All That Jazz, The Graduate, Amadeus, Finding Nemo

Music: You name it: Beethoven to James Brown, Little Richard to Diana Krall

Hobby: Movies, NBA basketball (Lakers), travel & reading

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I was a Teacher's Assistant in college at USC, and I taught video/film production to teenagers in Middle & High School.

Thoughts on Teaching: I think teaching is one of the most elegant forms of generosity there is. We all know something, so why not share it?

Thoughts on the environment: I can't control what others do. But I can control what I do, and I choose to take a small step and do what I can. Maybe my small step will inspire someone else to do the same. I wonder what would happen if 5 or 6 billion people all take a step.

Driving Instructor Mercedes
Movie: Harry Potter series, Psycho, A Clockwork Orange, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Taxi Driver

Music: System of a Down, The Beatles, The Growlers, The Velvet Underground, Snail Mail

Hobby: I watch a lot of movies now because I'm a film major. When I had more time I used to play a lot of video games. I like D&D, reading, painting and horseback riding.

Other Languages: I'm fluent in Spanish and am trying to learn Japanese. I can say basic phrases, but want to be able to read and write proficiently.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I taught AP Spanish Literature and regular Spanish Literature at the high school level as a long-term temporary substitute. I'm proud and happy to say that most of the kids passed their test, because we were dealing with some pretty difficult language. Think Shakespeare but in Spanish.

While in college, I went back to my old high school to mentor students who were interested in filmmaking. I've also taught basic Spanish to kids from 4-7 years old and tutored my high school friends in Calculus. Don't ask me about Calculus now though, it's been like 5 years since I've done any real math.

Thoughts on teaching: Personally, I love learning but I hated school. I realized it was because the way my teachers were teaching just wasn't fun. It was all about memorizing answers to pass a test without actually understanding why we were supposed to know these things. I feel like there's the same stigma with driving. I remember when I first started learning there was just so much going on and so many tiny rules to follow in order to pass the test and I didn't know why I was doing it. I had to learn on my own why it was important to look in my blind spot or inch out and look to see if someone's coming through a few close calls. My goal is to hopefully be there so that my students won't have to figure it out like I had to. I also want to have fun. Driving is a huge responsibility, but it's also a lot of fun. If I can get my students to understand why we're doing something (most likely it's to stay safe) and if we can have fun doing it, I've done my job.

Thoughts on the environment: Global warming is real. I remember 10 years ago LA was so much cooler and winters seemed longer. It's hard to always be conscious of the impact we have, but if we could at least turn the lights off in rooms we aren't using and throw away our trash in the proper places it's a start. The goal obviously is hydrogen fuel and finding a way to eliminate waste from farm animals and reforestation.

Driving Instructor Micah
Movie: The Count of Monte Cristo, Stardust, El Dorado, The Usual Suspects, 24, G.O.T.

Music: Mutemath, Andy Hunter, Calvin Harris, Muse, Ellie Goulding, Switchfoot

Hobby: I just can't get enough of Ultimate Frisbee during the summer, and I'll read anything by Jim Butcher. I also enjoy my FPS and RPG games on PS4, and every now and then I tinker around with clay and claim it's a ceramics project.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: Since High School, I have spent many years volunteering at the local youth center near my home in the Bay Area. At this center, my mentor once told me that a true Teacher/Mentor is a treasure hunter. Their job is to find gold buried within someone and dig it up. So as cheesy as it may sound, I believe everyone has gold within them, and by that I mean something unique and special to that person that is worth discovering.

Thoughts on teaching: Driving is a privilege and bestows responsibility. As an instructor with Drivers Ed Direct, I aim to set students up for success with a safe and constructive environment in which to train. I am very down to earth, and I teach how I like to be taught, with respect.

Thoughts on the environment: During my lifetime, I would like to see a city completely powered by clean energy. I know we still have a long road ahead, but I believe the future of our planet depends on the choices we make over the next 100 years.

Driving Instructor Rob
Movie: Back to the Future, Braveheart, Castaway, The Shawshank Redemption, The Dark Knight

Music: Radiohead, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Muse

Hobby: I regularly go hiking and camping. I love the outdoors and have the goal of one day meeting Bigfoot.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: As a park ranger I supervised several large events and important sites, I ensured the safety of the community, and I worked 1-on-1 educating people about nature.

Thoughts on teaching: It is important to pass on to others the knowledge that has helped you in life. There are too many bad drivers on the road. I teach others so that they don't learn bad habits.

Thoughts on the environment: We only have one Earth so there's no excuse to trash it. It should be everyone's goal to improve the world around them, even by doing small things. Little ripples become big waves.

Driving Instructor Roy
Movie: Rocky, Kindergarten Cop, Bloodsport, Olympus Has Fallen, Home Alone

Music: Scorpions, Poison, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Pat Benatar

Hobby: It is important for me to be up and about. I enjoy running, weightlifting, camping, canoeing, and backpacking.

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I have been teaching adults and teens in one way or another since 1994. In the last couple of years, I have had the privilege of teaching people the lifesaving skills of CPR. I have been driving for over 34 years. Driving is fun, rewarding, and an important skill. Now, I have the opportunity to merge my driving and teaching experiences.

Thoughts on teaching: Patience is a skill needed for both the instructor and the student. Direct instruction is important, but students also need to discover for themselves what they need to work on. It is the instructor's job to help guide the student, not just directly tell them what to do.

Thoughts on the environment: I care about the world we live in. I am an avid recycler. We are borrowing this world from our children and grandchildren so we must do OUR part to help protect and care for the planet that we live on.

Driving Instructor Sam
Movie: Jurassic Park, Transformers, Casablanca, I Am Legend, Cinema Paradiso

Music: Linkin Park, Frank Sinatra, Jack Johnson, Bob Marley, Rage Against The Machine

Hobby: In my free time I like to go hiking or heading out to the beach, also working on cars.

Other Languages: Spanish

Teaching/Mentoring experience: For the past few years I have been doing community service for a non-profit organization. I have also been a teacher's aide, helping younger kids with math.

Thoughts on teaching: I believe that you must share your knowledge with the world so everyone can grow and progress.

Thoughts on the environment: I think humanity as a whole has to put effort to preserve our planet earth, so future generations can enjoy this world.

Driving Instructor Sydney
Movie: She's The Man, Hairspray, Harry Potter Franchise, Marvel Franchise, and the Ip Man Franchise!

Music: BTS, IU, SOLE, Nao, and Ariana Grande

Hobby: In my free time I enjoy doing most things creative! Such as writing, painting, embroidery, and playing Animal Crossing!

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I tend to assimilate myself into a leadership role quite easily, so my first mentoring / teaching experience was actually in the church! As a part of the music ministry, I would lead our practices as well as choose what songs to perform every week! Aside from that, I was also a "big sister" to most of our youth who needed guidance in everyday life. Before Drivers Ed Direct, I've also taught a handful of family and friends how to drive, which brought me to this job in the first place!

Thoughts on teaching: As a patient and bright individual, I love teaching people new things! There is a genuine satisfaction in knowing someone is getting the hang of a new skill, and although there may be tough times to get through, getting to be there every step of the way is truly worth it. You can never be too old or too young to learn something new, and being able to help in any kind of way is a humbling experience!

Thoughts on the environment: Being environmentally cautious is the first step in taking care of our planet. Although it can be daunting to rewrite our bad habits in order to benefit the world we live in, it's important to know that even one step in the right direction, is a step that matters. I'm on my way to being as environmentally friendly as possible, and even though it's at a slow pace, being an example for those around me is truly important. As they say, we've only got one short life on this beautiful planet, we better take care of it!

Driving Instructor Tony
Movie: Titanic, Fast and Furious, The Pursuit of Happyness, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Music: Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Shakira, Mariah Carey

Hobby: In my free time I enjoy tinkering with cars, exercise, trying new foods and traveling the world.

Other Languages: Armenian

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I used to train volunteers that would donate their time to the elderly living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Also, I used to coach my little brother's soccer team.

Thoughts on teaching: I believe that people learn best when they are in a happy and comfortable environment. Therefore I prefer a more relaxed teaching style where we slow down to a pace that is ideal for the individual. A bit of guidance, patience and explanation gets the job done.

Thoughts on the environment: I feel that we all hold an important responsibility in preserving our environment. There are many little things we can change in our daily lives that will go a long way for the future well-being of our planet.

Driving Instructor Vatche
Movie: Iron Man, Big, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Spider Man, Norbit

Music: Depeche Mode, U2, Madonna

Hobby: In my free time I enjoy working out in the gym, hiking and bike riding. I love spending quiet times at home watching movies and playing a variety of games with my family.

Other Languages: Armenian

Teaching/Mentoring experience: I am a calm and patient individual who has had over 30 years of experience driving. I enjoy teaching and working with children and adults of all ages. I moved to California with my family in 1980 and lived in Glendale and Burbank area most of my life. Over the years, I have had several jobs, but always enjoyed teaching the most. I mentored young kids, teenagers and younger adults with various projects while raising two kids and being actively involved in their lives. My wife and I give unconditional love and attention to our kids and that connection helps me understand and relate with my students better. With my easy going personality and positive attitude, my lessons are sure to be fun and interactive.

Thoughts on teaching: Teaching a student how to drive and be a safe driver is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Recognizing the fact that a novice driver may be very nervous and scared, it is my job to make sure that the student feels safe and secure knowing that I will do my best to provide that level of comfort. I believe in a soft and positive reinforcement approach to teaching. Building upon the basic skills and progressing forward with positive reinforcement will give the student that safe and secure feeling and make them a safer driver.

Thoughts on the environment: Plant a tree, recycle and do your share to preserve our environment today, so it will stay healthy and strong for future generations to enjoy.
