How long will it take you to process my completion once I finish the course?
Once you complete the online course, Drivers Ed Direct will process and mail your certificate of completion within 1 business day via the delivery method you have chosen. Please allow 1-5 days to receive your certificate once it is mailed.
-
What do I do once I receive my certificate in the mail?
You need to take the certificate to your local DMV so you can take the test to receive your learner’s permit.
* Please note, you also need to enroll with a licensed driving school for driving lessons before taking your permit test at the DMV.
If you live within our Behind-The-Wheel service area, call 800-728-1048 to schedule lessons or register online by navigating our
behind the wheel training page.

What other information do I need to take to the DMV other than my drivers ed completion certificate?
-
What do I do if I lose my California drivers education certificate?
In the event that a certificate is lost, there will be a $25.00 processing fee to have another certificate of completion sent. A signed letter from a parent/guardian is required to obtain a second certificate when the first one is lost.
-
Can you fax me the drivers education completion certificate?
The DMV will only accept original certificates from our office. If you are in a hurry to get your certificate you can always upgrade to expedited delivery. If you are in the neighborhood, you can always call and pick up the certificate instead of having one mailed to you.
-
I know I have to be enrolled in Drivers Training before going to the DMV to take my permit test,
but can’t I just print out my receipt from my email and use this as proof of enrollment?
The DMV will only accept an OFFICIAL certificate, not a receipt as proof of enrollment.
-
I just finished my Online Drivers Ed course or Behind-The-Wheel-Training - will I be issued a certificate of completion if I am over 17½ years of age?
No. Students who are 17 ½ years of age or older completing the California Online Drivers Ed Course or Behind-The-Wheel Training WILL NOT be issued DMV certificates as they are not necessary for obtaining a drivers license at the DMV.
-
What do I do once I have passed your online final exam?
If you are
less than 17½ year old, we will send you a driver's ed certificate of completion in the mail.
This is the same completion certificate you will take with you to the DMV when you take the written test needed to earn a California learner permit.
Please note, before going to the DMV to take the permit test, you must first enroll in a qualified behind-the-wheel driving school program and show the DMV
proof of enrollment.
For a more exact list of what you will need, see our
California Licensing Requirements for Teens page.
